How to Apply
Introduction
Anyone may file a claim for California UI benefits. It does not mean that one will have a valid claim or collect benefits, but one has the right to file a claim and try. It is best to file as soon as unemployed. The only time the Department should refuse to file a claim is when the individual states that s/he is still employed full time.
Generally, you will be eligible for more benefits the sooner you file, so file as soon as you can.
But if you've waited, you should still apply!

When applying for benefits the claimant should have information ready that is necessary to file a claim and to identify that the person who is calling is indeed the person who earned the wages and wishes to file the claim.
